While the Acer Aspire One is one of the more popular netbook lineups in the market, many of their models are limited to a 9-inch screen, rather than the bigger 10-inch display. Acer’s latest 10-inch model; the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 aspires to change all that. With a price tag cheaper by about $40-$90 than similar models from other PC makers this netbook is set to take the market by storm.
Featuring the basic Intel Atom processor with 1GB worth of RAM and Windows XP setup, the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 offers a keyboard large enough for comfortable typing with a rather tiny touch pad and mouse buttons that aren’t all that comfortable but this is expected as drawback due to its price. The netbook comes with a six-cell battery that can run up to 6 hours. On the flip side, it makes the whole package relatively heavy.
Netbooks were originally intended as cheap, no-frills travel machines, and the new Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 fits that bill well, but there are also plenty of well-polished features. This includes a 1.6GHz Atom Processor N270 and about 1GB worth of 533MHz DDR2 memory. The netbook utilizes a 160GB hard disk drive running at 5,400rpm. While the netbook uses a Mobile Intel 945GSE chipset it remains limited to its own integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Weighing in at 2.9 pounds with the thicker 6-cell Li-ion battery and a 10.1-inch screen the netbook is powered by the Windows XP operating system.
The new Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 is available in blue, white, red, and black. Each unit offers a glossy casing and a matte finish on the keyboard tray. While the netbook has a footprint similar to other 10-inch Netbooks, it’s significantly thicker in comparison, no doubt thanks to the bulky battery. The 10.2-inch LCD display offers a 1024×600 resolution. Bright and clear, the new bigger display is the main selling points of the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165.
With Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, specifically designed for low-power Netbooks, you get enough computing power for basic tasks, such as Web surfing, working on documents, and some basic multimedia playback. The system can run for an impressive 6 hours while replaying HD video but if you’re not watching video you can probably expect battery life to increase somewhat.
